Our department strives to provide an extra-curricular education, which simply means additional training outside of the classroom, via internships and post-baccalaureate fellowships or "post-bacs." These experiences hone our student's research and laboratory skills and provide them with a taste ofo the real world, which helps them decide which profession they want to pursue and to assess what additional preparation they may need to pursue that profession. Gallaudet University and our department does this by connecting students with employers who have internship and/or post-baccalaureate fellowship programs. These experiences are made possible in part through the Career Center, the Department of Biology faculty connections with workplaces, or sometimes through a student's own initiative. Because they are external to Gallaudet, we cannot guarantee internship or fellowship placement for anyone. However, most of our students who have desired such placements have been able to obtain them.
